Description

A classic heirloom beefsteak. Originally from Tennessee, Cherokee Purple Tomato has been winning hearts for over a century with it’s unmatched sweet and balanced flavor. The fruits are streaked with vibrant purple, brown and red hues with dark shoulders, and is unlike any other variety of its kind. Productive plants produce slightly flattened, 8-12oz fruits on relatively short vines. Said to have originated from the Cherokees prior to the 1890s. Indeterminate.

Planting Instructions:
Start Cherokee Purple Tomato indoors mid-March through early May.  Optimal soil temperature for germination is 75-85°.
Seed depth: 1/8”. Plant spacing: deter. 12-18”, indeter. 24-36”.  Harden off before planting in ground.  Plant in full sun after danger of frost has passed.  Indeterminate varieties will require trellising.

All of our seed is Non-GMO and Certified Organic by Washington State Department of Agriculture. We grow the majority of our varieties here at Deep Harvest Farm on Whidbey Island while we purchase the rest from other small, organic Northwest seed growers. Finally, all of our offerings are open-pollinated (OP) so that you too can save and share seed from these plants!
