Phacelia

Description

Aka “Bee’s Friend.” Bees go bananas for these whorls of lacy purple flowers. 2-3′ tall, fast-growing plants attract dozens of pollinating species that result in a stunning chorus of varied buzzes. In fact, a local beekeeper here on Whidbey Island plants acres of Phacelia for his honey production. We plant it near brassica crops to attract parasitic wasps, syrphid flies and other beneficial insects that prey on aphids and other pests. Can also be sown as a great, quick-growing, summer cover crop.

Days to Maturity: 75-80
Latin name: Phacelia tanacetifolia
Life cycle for seed saving: Annual

Planting Instructions:
Direct seed Phacelia as soon as soil can be worked. Plant every 6 weeks for continual blooms. Seeding depth: ¼”. Seeding rate: 1”. Row spacing: 18”.
