Napa Cabbage – Sativa

$4.25

Packet (~250 seeds)

Description

It’s a shame to admit, but the world of open-pollinated Napa Cabbages is quite small and uninspired. Of the handful of varieties out there most are hard pressed to even produce an actual cabbage, resulting instead in a loose assemblage of leaves and flowering stems. There is nothing worse than waiting 80 days for a cabbage to mature, only to have your kimchi plans foiled by a lousy variety. Luckily, Sativa defies this trend, producing a high percentage of large, dense cylindrical heads. We were delighted to stumble on this cabbage in the Fruition Seeds catalog, who in turn sourced it from Sativa Seeds in Switzerland. Sativa produces all season long, but thrives best in the cool temps of spring and fall. Perfect in salads, kimchi, wraps, slaws and more!

Days to Maturity: 70-80
Latin Name: Brassica rapa
Life Cycle for Seed Saving:
Biennial

Planting Instructions:
Direct seed napa cabbage as soon as soil can be worked or start indoors 2 weeks before transplant. Optimal soil temp for germination is 65-80°. Seeding depth: ¼”. Transplant or thin to at least 18”. Best for spring of fall.

All of our seed is Non-GMO and Certified Organic by Washington State Department of Agriculture. We grow the majority of our varieties here at Deep Harvest Farm on Whidbey Island while we purchase the rest from other small, organic Northwest seed growers. Finally, all of our offerings are open-pollinated (OP) so that you too can save and share seed from these plants!
