Lettuce – Forellenschluss

$4.25

Description

After trialing several speckled leaf lettuces in 2020, we fell in love with this Austrian heirloom for its large, vigorous heads and eye-catching red splotches. Also known fondly as Spotted Trout Back, Forellenschluss Lettuce has an open, yet upright, habit like romaine and demonstrated faster spring growth that other speckled varieties. Fedco Seeds deemed it the BEST tasting lettuce of 50 varieties in their 1998 lettuce trial due to its delicate, buttery flavor. While we can’t ascribe to it quite so lofty of credentials, we will attest to its perfection in the salad bowl!  Mostly we’re just excited to hear the word For-Ell-En-Schluss uttered on a more regular basis in the seed office.
