Scallion – White Spear

$4.25

Packet (.5g, ~300 seeds)

Description

Vigorous plants with impressively upright, blue-green foliage won White Spear Scallion its first place status in our 2019 scallion trials.  Easier to clean than other scallions since the leaves don’t droop in the dirt.  Introduced to us by our friends at Adaptive Seeds who have been successfully selecting this variety for overwintering in the Pacific Northwest.

Days to Maturity: 60
Latin Name: Allium fistulosum
Life cycle for seed saving: Biennial

Planting Instructions:
Direct seed White Spear Scallion as soon as soil can be worked or start indoors in flats in Feb. Optimal soil temperature for germination is 50-65°.  Seeding depth: 1/2”. Seeding rate: every 1”. Row spacing 12”.  Transplant in bunches of 10-20 plants at every 8-12″.

All of our seed is Non-GMO and Certified Organic by Washington State Department of Agriculture. We grow the majority of our varieties here at Deep Harvest Farm on Whidbey Island while we purchase the rest from other small, organic Northwest seed growers. Finally, all of our offerings are open-pollinated (OP) so that you too can save and share seed from these plants!
