AKA Chinese Broccoli. This is one of most delicious, underrated crops. A staple in Chinese stir-fry but quickly developing wider appeal. Gai Lan sends up tall, juicy shoots, up to 1” thick, ending in a small clusters of leaves and flower buds. It’s got the body of asparagus with the flavor of incredibly tender broccoli. Will continue to grow new shoots after initial picking if given enough space and fertility. Best in spring.

Direct seed as soon as soil can be worked.
Optimal soil temp for germination is 65-75°.

We grow the majority of our varieties here at Deep Harvest Farm on Whidbey Island while we purchase the rest from other small, organic Northwest seed growers.
