Quinoa – Brightest Brilliant Rainbow

Description

Brightest Brilliant Rainbow Quinoa is another beautiful creation from Frank Morton at Wild Garden Seeds. A two-in-one ornamental and delicious grain. This variety boasts vibrant blooms of red, orange, yellow, green, pink and everything in between. Plants are vigorous, reaching over 6’ tall yet needing no addition support, even when loaded with plump grains. Quinoa is one of the most nutritious foods on the planet – a full protein with rich nutty flavor. Baby greens are great too, eaten raw or cooked like spinach.

Days to Maturity: 90
Latin name: Chenopodium quinoa
Life cycle for seed saving: Annual

Planting Instructions:
Direct seed Brightest Brilliant Rainbow Quinoa in early May or start indoors two weeks beforehand. Optimal soil temp for germination is 65-70 F. Thin plants to 10-12″ in the row. Row spacing: 12″. Seeds are ripe with flower heads turn brown and seed easily falls off into your hand. Thresh the seeds by beating the flower heads into a bucket or on a tarp. Winnow away chaff with a fan.

All of our seed is Non-GMO and Certified Organic by Washington State Department of Agriculture. We grow the majority of our varieties here at Deep Harvest Farm on Whidbey Island while we purchase the rest from other small, organic Northwest seed growers. Finally, all of our offerings are open-pollinated (OP) so that you too can save and share seed from these plants!
